The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has in collaboration with Environfly Consult (UK), held a virtual seminar for administrative staff and faculty members on the topic “Industrialization of Higher Education and Resource Mobilization”.

At the seminar held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, International Business Strategy Development Expert, Dr. Akanimo Odon said that the corona virus pandemic has had considerable impact on businesses globally, forcing many firms to cut costs by reducing staff hours and in other instances embarked on staff lay-offs.

Dr. Odon indicated that there is the need for educational institutions to take a second look at their brands to give them international outlook in order to stay competitive in these difficult times. He observed that even though giving a university an international appeal is the easiest, it is often ignored.

Dr. Odon said “to give an institution an international appeal, you must first start changing the mindset of the workforce. Until that is done, the status quo will remain”. He charged faculty members to continue to research into relevant sectors of the economy to transform and make positive impact on people rather than to publish for promotional purposes.

The Vice President (Academic) of AUCC, Prof. Felix K. Aveh said in an interview after the seminar that an institution’s ability to adequately mobilize resources and grants is key to its survival in the wake of what has become known as “the new normal”. He added that it is against this background that the webinar was organized to re-orient administrative staff and faculty on how to attract international students and foreign grants.

Prof Aveh indicated that such webinars will be organized regularly for the university community including students to equip them with the necessary information to thrive in the global economy.
