Professor Michael Williams, 54, has been appointed Director of AUCC’s Centre for Africana Studies. Prof Williams, who will work closely with Professor Kofi Asare Opoku, Vice President, to strengthen the Centre for Africana Studies and make it the ‘heartbeat’ of the African University College of Communications, is also charged with developing programs for research, bachelor’s and master’s degree courses, international conferences and Special Courses for Foreign Students. He holds a Ph.D from University of Notre Dame, and has been professor in Sociology and Africana Studies in a number of Universities in the United States, including Fisk University, State University of New York at Binghamton, Elizabeth City State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Simmons College. Since 2000, he has been founder and editor of the Nkrumaist Review, a scholarly journal which is now based at AUCC. Says AUCC President Kojo Yankah, “Prof Williams brings fresh perspectives on African American Studies that will complement our vision of a truly pan-African institution”. Prof Williams’s research interests are in Pan-Africanism, Diasporan Studies, Nkrumaism, and Sociology of Knowledge. He has published in a number of scholarly journals. |
